Fashion Files Magazine: Ready to Wear

Top 100 Looks from London Fashion Week, SS'12

New approach to cut and silhouette were on some designers' mind across the pond for spring, while others simplified their creations and threw a splash of color. Unlike New York, London delivered a lot more acidity with psychedelic prints appearing everywhere. The two most-watched designers - Christopher Kane and Thomas Tait - had something different in mind. Both showed sporty catwalks full of highly wearable clothes, but the best surprise was that they also chose to plant their models firmly on the ground with flat soles.

The best collection in our eyes was Mary Katrantzou's and to call it bold is an understatement. She also managing to deliver a lot on substance and style, but this time she found the balance and made it wearable. Bold, large strokes of color were at the center of it all, and scales, feathers, flowers were blown up to an unrecognizable proportion. And that was only the beginning. For the floral numbers she had "a whirlwind of metal," and used actual 3-D metal, with little paint cans crusted onto a dress.

Roksanda Ilinicic also did not fail to impress, with a collection rather different that what we've seen from her before. For spring she relied on bold, neon pinks and blues that threw a memorable punch, all put together in a demi-sporty elegant ensembles.

Lastly, let's talk about Christopher Bailey and his social media savvy presentation for Burberry Prorsum. Yes, it is one of our favorites out of London, but isn't this almost an expectation at this point? Nonetheless, after all the real-time tweeting and Facebooking, Baily did indeed deliver. It was organic and beautiful: full linen skirts, parkas, trenches in vegetable colors with crochet and beaded details. The accessories were also outstanding - beaded, tribal wedges and oversized handbags.

The many underwhelming designs from London Fashion Week we have chronicled in our WTFashion? section.
